Bart Becker: Biography
Bart Becker is currently writing Last Set at the Pressure Drop, a bunch of connected stories. Excerpts of the work-in-progress have already been in "Turtleneck", "Outsider Ink", "Avant", the "Cortland Review", "Magaera", "Facets", "Ept" and "Gopher".
He is the author of two books, "Til the Cows Come Home: Rock 'n' Roll Nebraska and Seattle Brews: Insider's Guide to Alehouses, Brewpubs, Bars". His work has also been included in such compilations as Northwest Originals: "Washington Women in the Arts", "Charlie Parker Companion: Six Decades of Commentary", and "Quotable Seattle". As an editor, he has worked on books ranging from Alaska Bizarre to Hood Canal Co-op. In a journalism career, writing about that crease between pop culture and the avant-garde, his byline has been in "Details", "Nine", "Village Voice", "Rolling Stone", "Destination Discovery", "Boston Phoenix", "Seattle Weekly", "Seattle Magazine", "Philadelphia After Dark", "Wilmington New Paper", "Phoenix New Times", "Miami Herald", "New Art Examiner", "Pacific Northwest", "Crafts Report", "Puget Sound Business Journal", "Washington Business", "Inside the Seahawks", "Lincoln Journal-Star", "Omaha World-Herald". And more.
Off the printed page, he is associate producer and writer of "Hootie's Blues," the award-winning documentary about Kansas City jazz-blues pianist Jay McShann.
A member of the Nebraska Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, he has played in the Hallucinations, Rick and the Rockets, South Street Shakers and Pinky Black and the Excessives.
He is born and raised in Nebraska, with all the underground cachet that goes along with that.
